OUR HISTORY

PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

General Maintenance Contractors of East Alabama Inc. (GMC), was started as a sole proprietorship by James N. DeLamar Sr. (Jimmy) in 1977.  The company originally performed operations on miscellaneous underground utilities (water, power) and other maintenance operations. Through the following years, the company continued performing underground utility installation and other miscellaneous jobs. In 1990, Jimmy acquired the natural gas service line contract in Lee County for the Alabama Gas Corporation.

As previous, Jimmy worked for Alabama Gas and ran a crew that installed natural gas service pipelines (before General Maintenance Contractors was started). After the contract was acquired in 1990, James N. DeLamar Jr. began working with the company. Together, along with Joyce C. DeLamar (wife of Jimmy), the company sustained good relations and contracts with Alabama Gas Corporation. In 2005, General Maintenance Contractors was incorporated to be become General Maintenance Contractors of East Alabama Inc. At that time, Joyce C. DeLamar became the majority shareholder of the Corporation.

To current, GMC is a thriving company that continues to install natural gas pipelines and other underground utilities. GMC is still a privately held family owned business and has all intentions to continue to grow and provide excellent jobs to the local economy.
